how to measure yourself for breeches

Correctly sized riding breeches are the key to being comfortable when you’re riding, and you will sit and ride better if you are wearing the correct size. You can choose from many options and styles, depending on what type of riding you normally do. Besides comfort, if you take part in competitive riding your clothing should fit perfectly and not provide any sort of distraction for judges. Follow our five steps below to work out which is the correct size for you.

1. Decide which style of riding breeches you plan to buy, e.g. low-rise, traditional or high rise.  To help you decide, read Kim’s blog on how to buy riding breeches.

2. Then measure the narrowest point of your waist if you want traditional or high fit rise breeches, or around your hips for low-rise breeches.

3. Measure your inside leg to make sure you order the correct length of breeches as some of our breeches come in short, regular and long.  Breeches should finish just below the calf muscle.  You may have to order short and long ones.  You can quickly check by giving us a call if you need to - our number is 01438 940561 and you can call us Monday to Friday from 8am-10pm.

4. Order your breeches according to your waist and inseam measurements. All of our breeches are measured in inches around the waist and they come in two inch increments. This is the same as most men’s and some women’s breeches e.g. 24”, 26”, 28” etc… You should order the size slightly above your waist measurement. For example, if your waist measure is 25.2", order the riding breeches in a 26” waist.

Use the table below to double check you’re the correct height for your chosen waist size use the chart below. Read along the top of the chart to find your waist size and then follow down it to find your height as long as there is a tick in this box you should be fine.

5. Check the fit of your breeches as soon as you receive them. For example ensure that the breeches do not gape at the waist and the knee patches are actually on the inside of your knee and not your thigh!

If you are unsure on a size please do not hesitate to give us a call on 01438 940561 - we’ll be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
