Brand Spotlight: Woof Wear

We continue our series of features where we put a brand under the EQUUS spotlight! This week as the eventing season is in full swing, we feature Woof Wear, which is well known, amongst other things, for its superb range of high quality equestrian protection wear including the famous Club Brushing Boot. Kim, from EQUUS, poses a few questions to Ali Felton from Woof Wear…

Tell us a bit about how Woof Wear got started

In 1981 Louise Woof pioneered the first ‘Woof Boot’ , the first brushing boot to be made from neoprene. This was a major innovation compared with the traditional leather boots at the time as it meant the horses could be protected with boots that were light, durable and easy to care for. For more than 30 years now Woof Wear has been at the forefront of equestrian protection and our products are being valued equally by leisure riders, professionals and even the Police Forces across the UK.

What customers are you aiming at and why should they chose Woof Wear products over others?

Our products are aimed at customers of all abilities and competing in all disciplines. We make products for different budgets and all are designed to be durable, long lasting, easy to care for that look great on your horse.

How do you decide what new products to add to the range?

New products are added when we design something that is either new on the market, or a new or improved version of an existing product or type of product. New products must be of good quality and offer value for money to the customer.

What's your favourite Woof Wear product, and why?

Our favourite product is the new Smart Event Boot (available for front and hind legs). This product is a flag bearer for our Smart range of horse boots and utilises the clever protective foam d3o. This product was designed to give the best protection possible to the horse whilst still offering value for money and having a very stylish look to it.

What's Woof Wear's hidden gem of a product that you feel customers overlook?

The Woof Wear Kevlar Overreach Boot is an excellent overreach boot in its own right but its most useful feature is one not so many people know about. As it's made from the man-made fibre Kevlar, its extremely durable and robust at resisting abrasions. However as the design is extra deep it’s fantastic for using on horses that pull shoes off when turned out. It’s much stronger than the common rubber bell boots so will last much longer, whilst saving a fortune in farrier bills.

What 'claims to fame' does Woof Wear have and for what products?

As well as being used by many top riders in all disciplines, one of our favourite ‘claims to fame’ is that a large number of horses from the Household Cavalry were shipped across to the UAE to do their display activity ride to one of the Sheikhs. They were fully protected with Woof Wear Travel Boots and many horses in the display were wearing Single Lock Brushing Boots.
