Our Best Winter Riding Boots Buying Guide

Best winter riding boots

I hate to say it, but the mud season is already upon us and that means that snow and ice won't be far behind. So it’s time to start thinking seriously about what boots you’ve got in your wardrobe to cope with these conditions or more importantly what you haven’t got!  If you’re planning to treat yourself to a pair of boots for yourself this autumn or are hoping that someone’s going to buy you a pair this Christmas, read Kim’s blog to help you decide which long boot is best for you.

Dublin River Boot

If you’re looking for one boot that’s good for everything outside during the autumn and winter, the Dublin River Boot is the best choice.  Simply put they’re warm, comfortable and waterproof.  Plus they give very good foot support for walking which is great when you’ve got all those miles to walk when doing your chores!  Some dressage riders even claim that when riding in these, they had EXCELLENT contact with their horse and what’s more it was far better than with paddocks and half chaps.  They’re great if you have skinny or fuller calves as they do both regular and wide fittings.

Mountain Horse Snowy River Boot

If you're a fan of the Mountain Horse High Rider II boots, as so many of us are, the Snowy River Boot is a solid winter version. They came out last year and as soon as we saw them, were smitten! Described as a 'general purpose, winter riding boot', they’re attractive, warm, with a cosy faux fur lining, and ideal for those colder days.  Although they’re not waterproof, they do feature a high waterproof membrane.  They’re not the cheapest winter boot but warm and really comfy to wear. And like all Mountain Horse products, they’re full of well-designed features and made from quality materials.  .   We love them.  We think you will too.

Toggi Calgary

Sometimes it’s a struggle, isn’t it, to find boots that are long enough, slim enough, wide enough etc. Well the Toggi Calgary boot is all of those things. They’re a great fit, comfortable and superb value for what is a stylish riding boot.  And what’s more, even though they’re affordable, they’re still a great quality – a rarity in this day and age!

To Buy or not to Buy…that is the question!

It’s a tough decision to make, i.e. which boot to buy.  I’ve tried all of them on and after each one, I’ve declared it my favourite boot.  But I can’t have three favourite boots, can I?  I’d like to but sadly I can’t!  I can guarantee if you’re unsure about whether to buy any of these boots, take the plunge...it’ll be the best money you ever spend on footwear.  And the very last word from me is that also as they’re a great looking casual boot, you’ll get loads of compliments about how great they look on you and people will ask you where you got them.  And what a great feeling that is when people ask you where you got something you’re wearing…
