The Jeffries Miniature Jointed Pelham Bit is most effective when used with a set of double reins. The pelham is a popular showing bit and is preferred by some ponies to a double bridle - especially those with a fleshier tongue who have less room to accommodate two bits. The single jointed mouthpiece works by applying a pressure to both sides of the tongue.
