Wage war on flies when horse riding!

It’s Fly Heaven but not if you’re a horse! All this wet and warm weather brings the flies out in full force. So we thought we’d share with you our fave five picks of fly repellents. Five because fly repellents come in five different forms of application. Did you know that you can get a spray, a pour on liquid, a gel, a roll on and or wipes? So whatever your horse’s disposition, you’re bound to find something that’ll work for him.
Our customers tell us that their favourite choice of applicator is spray and furthermore Bremsen Long Acting Fly Repellent is their absolute fave. They are so not bothered that it doesn’t smell great because it’s so incredibly effective and it lasts for up to 36 hours which is great if your horses live out!
If your horse doesn’t like a spray, how about a gel? When you put it on, this Carr & Day & Martin Insect Repellent Gel doesn't leave any sticky residue and it even lasts in the odd summer shower. It’s weather resistant and also quick drying. Do bear in mind that gels can If you’re a bit on the messy side, do bear in mind that gels tend to be a bit messy. So if there’s nowhere to wash your hands after you’ve applied it, read on to roll on or wipes!
Best Pour On Liquid
‘Pour on’ solutions were used before sprays were invented. These are still incredibly popular today and mean that you can control precisely how much is applied to a certain spot, like the base of a tail for example if you’re treating sweet itch. Pour on Liquids are not as messy as gels but sometimes require gloves to be worn when they’re applied like Coopers Fly Repellent Plus. Whilst this repellent is not the cheapest, its reputation precedes it. Tried and tested over the years, it comes highly recommended as a product that works very well and is good value for money. Without a doubt one of the best repellents on the market.
Best Roll On
A Roll on is best for ‘hitting the spot’, i.e. when you need to apply fly repellent to a certain spot. It’s accurate application and convenience make it an increasingly popular choice especially as there’s no mess and dirty hands. Wipes are a convenient and quick way to apply repellent and come in a small handy tub that you can take out to shows.
